The importance of regular maintenance and servicing

Without regular maintenance and servicing, even the most technologically advanced devices won’t produce optimal results. Investing in your hearing is a big step, so don’t risk your investment through lack of care and maintenance.

Modern hearing devices are made up of a myriad of different components that all require maintenance and servicing. While this might sound daunting, it’s surprisingly easy to maintain your hearing device. Daily brushing and cleaning, a weekly check of the wax filter and regular checks on your batteries will help keep your device in top working order.

The Hearing Hub helps you stay on top of maintenance and servicing, with our full service aftercare support designed to ensure your hearing device continues to meet your needs. Our services include regular hearing tests, counselling, hearing aid adjustments, hearing aid and auditory training, hearing aid repairs and the supply of batteries and other consumables.

Frequently asked questions about maintenance & servicing

How often should I change the filter in my hearing aid?

As the filter prevents wax from getting into the delicate components of your hearing aid, this will depend on how much wax you produce. Perform a weekly check and change as needed.

How often should hearing aid batteries be changed?

Depending on your hearing aid model and level of usage, your batteries will need to be changed every five to fourteen days. Rechargeable batteries don’t require changing but do need to be regularly charged.

What’s the best way to clean my hearing aid?

Each night after you remove your hearing aids, wipe them gently with a tissue or soft cloth. Use the cleaning brush provided to remove wax from your device every day before you put them on.

Where should I store my hearing aid when not in use?

Disconnect the batteries and store in a dry place, such as a dedicated storage container. This will keep them safe and avoid moisture build up that can damage the device.

Ongoing care and maintenance

Hearing aids are becoming more advanced, with a range of technologies enhancing their connectivity and durability. Like all devices, they do require ongoing care and maintenance to continue performing at their best. While instructions will differ depending on your particular device, these general tips will help you keep your hearing aid in good working order.

  • Avoid moisture and extreme heat
  • Store in a dry place when not in use
  • Change batteries regularly
  • Keep the device clear of earwax
  • Regularly change your wax filter
  • Schedule routine cleaning
  • Keep your apps and software up to date
  • Always handle with care
